Family Support Services
We offer family support services to families, with children aged 12 years and under, living in Cumberland LGAs.
Our program assists and supports:
- parents and families with children
- newly arrived families
- families from diverse cultural backgrounds
- parents and children with diverse abilities
- socially and physically isolated families
We provide counselling and case work to families who may be experiencing, or at risk of, vulnerability and where there may be serious risk to children.
The TEI support program, funded by the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), delivers flexible support to families, children and extended family members. Evidence shows that children’s life chances are affected by both their families and communities, and that both can be changed for the better.
The Targeted Earlier Intervention (TEI) program delivers a wide variety of support to children, young people, families and communities. Each local community has different priorities and needs and so the TEI program is flexible, responsive and locally based.
Effective prevention and early intervention is possibly the most promising strategy for changing the trajectories of children.

TEI uses a commissioning approach to inform decisions about programs and activities. This means that community or not-for-profit organisations who know their local communities, are commissioned to deliver TEI programs or activities. This is in line with DCJ’s strategic approach for delivering funded human services.
Services are delivered under two broad streams:
Wellbeing and Safety
Activities that support families and individuals and provide opportunities for personal development.
Community Strengthening
Activities that build cohesion, inclusion and wellbeing across all communities, and empower Aboriginal communities.
Key Strategies.
- Case Management for individuals and families.
- Strengthening family relationships and enhancing safety.
- Information and referrals for families connect with external services.
- Support parents to meet the emotional needs and development of their children.
- Plan with families to enable and promote positive children development.
- Assist and support with parenting techniques, home management skills and emotional care.
- Internal referrals such as NDIS, disability, social groups, and educational classes.
